Developed as my final major project at university, the Snug Chair grew from my thesis exploring how the visible ageing of objects could encourage a more sustainable and lasting relationship with furniture. I designed and made the chair independently, following a self-directed brief from initial research through to final manufacture. Its ash frame supports plywood seat and back panels fitted with tactile felt pads, designed to record traces of use as they gradually wear and change over time. Rather than treating ageing as damage, the chair celebrates it as evidence of ownership, attachment and a life lived with the object. The project went on to receive awards and wider recognition following my graduation.
