Sense Charity Furniture

Furniture designed to celebrate the Sense Community.

PROJECT DETAILS

Project type: Inclusive furniture manufacture and installation
Materials: Birch plywood, Formica laminate and mixed sensory materials
My role: Technical interpretation, workshop manufacture, delivery and installation
Key processes: Working from technical drawings, Domino joinery, laminating, cabinet assembly, detailed sanding, finishing and on-site installation

Developed by The Dual Works for Sense College in Loughborough, this project created inclusive furniture across children’s, employment and creative activity spaces. My role focused on interpreting the team’s technical drawings, manufacturing the furniture and contributing to its large-scale delivery and installation. Fabrication included birch plywood construction, Festool Domino joinery, Formica application and detailed sanding and finishing. Particular care was given to smooth surfaces, edges and tactile details, ensuring a safe and high-quality finish for people who experience and navigate the furniture through touch.

Completed while employed by The Dual Works. Photography by Crumb.
